This morning we received some somewhat optimistic news about the icefall – nothing confirmed yet but staying hopeful!
I then walked to Lobuche from Everest Base camp with Kristen and Pemba and woahhh I’m not usually used to being (by far) the slowest! Kristen is one of the world’s greatest high altitude climbers (29 summits over 8000m), and Pemba is an extremely strong Sherpa. We went “slowly” hahaha – they are both very nice people so I’m not afraid to tell them to slow it down!
We got to Lobuche, and we met up with our friends from base camp who had summited Lobuche this morning. We’re at 4900m and it feels quite nice to be a little bit lower down with higher oxygen levels. We’re still higher than all of the Alps though!!
I had an incredible schnitzel for dinner, and garlic soup of course. Kristen and I then went into another lodge to chat with some different friends afterwards.
Tomorrow we’ll go to high camp, and the next day we’ll summit! We have no rush, so we probably won’t leave in the middle of the night, like we would if we weren’t camping on the summit.
