Today we rested in base camp. At this point it’s just a waiting game until we can leave for our summit push. Trying to be as patient as possible.
I feel like every day at base camp is the same but anyway here’s today.
We had breakfast, which was hard to get down as usual. Then I did some schoolwork and tried to nap but… it was just way too hot in my tent! I opened up all of the ‘doors’ and even changed into shorts and t-shirt but it was too hot. So I went into the coffee tent, and chatted with lots and lots of friends!
We had lunch, then I went back into my tent to try to nap again but I still couldn’t for very long. I’m not sleeping well at night and I want to try to be as rested as possible for our summit bid.
Then I went BACK to the coffee tent, met up with my Nima Rinji who is a very famous climber. He is 19 and the youngest person to climb all 14 x 8000m peaks. It’s so nice to have someone around my age, and with MUCH more experience, who can mentor me, but who’s also funny and very kind. I’m lucky to call him my friend. I am also fortunate enough to share a base camp with Kristen Harila who is the fastest person to climb all 14 x 8000m peaks. She is so lovely and so so so inspiring and talented. She has given me some really good advice, but also has permanently put the song “A whole new world” from Aladdin in my head.
We played cards, did some crosswords and said goodbyes to those leaving for an earlier summit push. We are trying to follow those who are up high on the mountain, leaving for the summit now. Many climbers carry satellite trackers with a link to follow along. I have often followed climbers very closely from my home in Australia (sometimes in school 👀) and I have been able to see the exact moment they reach the summit. It’s just so surreal to be following them from Everest base camp, and knowing that I will hopefully be up there soon!!
We have a tracker that we turn on everyday that we move on the mountain. Link is here on the blog in the menu section if you want to track us live as we hopefully reach the summit.

Behrouz is one of my favourite people at base camp, who also happens to be the expedition doctor. He’s a super experienced climber and such a funny guy – everyone loves him
