I woke up, went to breakfast – the usual everyday!
I then went to my tent, chillaxed for a bit, then headed to the coffee tent. I did some more schoolwork in there, and mum had to help me with some maths!
We all went to lunch at 1pm, same old same old. Then I went back to the coffee tent, and met up with my friend Murilo from Brazil. He had the exact same issues last year, and we had the same summit day and turned back at the same time. I found him on instagram once I got back, and we’ve stayed friends. Hopefully this year we both summit!
We chatted over coffee with Louise who is an expedition doctor from the Netherlands. She will work at camp 2, but for now she has to stay at base camp because the current base camp doctor is sick!
I also talked with Sandro, the photographer of the photos in my last blog post. He’s a very experienced climber too! He was one of the videographers of the Redbull skier who skied down Everest a few months ago. He was telling me stories about his adventures.
I went back to the dining tent, answered some emails and chatted with Pemba, Mum and Dad. Even though the ropes are still a few days away from being fixed to the summit, we’re already discussing weather windows. It is a bit stressful, as I still have worries about weather not lining up to the forecast like last year. It’s still a while away from now so no need to worry too much!
We were sitting around the gas heater, all updating our social media pages, when Jam (from Ireland) walked in! He had just come from the icefall and had been at camp 3! We chatted and procrastinated getting back to our tents because it was soooo snowy and windy outside.
