(wrote when I had no reception)
Kristen and I woke up in Lobuche, and had a late, slow breakfast of pancakes/french toast with a pot of lemon ginger honey tea. We were not in a rush to get going!
We also spent some time in the lodge with Pasang, who is one of the owners of SST (the climbing company we go with), and I have spent a bit of time in Kathmandu with him over the years, so it was nice to see him in the mountains!
We then set off for Lobuche East high camp! We saw only a coupe of people on the trail (this is now going off the EBC route) and we took it nice and easy, taking a couple of breaks.
To any of my friends who have come hiking and said they felt bad for going slow: Here, with Kristen and Pemba, I am BY FAR the slowest!!! They are more than happy to take breaks, and go a little slower! We still all have to climb Everest after this!
We got to high camp at 5200m (i think) in about 1h50 and met up with some other people from our base camp gang who had just summited! I just love that almost everywhere I go around here, there will always be someone I know! Kristen and I had pasta for lunch, and SO MANY cups of tea. I have had a Khumbu cough (caused by the particularly dry and cold air in this region of Nepal) for a while now, and the warm tea really helps it. I take other meds too for it :))
We went to our tent, which has MUCH thicker mattresses than the lodge. Our backs are pretty sore from last night!! We organised our gear for tomorrow and napped/relaxed whilst listening to some music.
We had an early dinner, at 5:30pm as almost everyone in the small dining tent was going to leave camp at 2am. We will leave at around 8am because we are camping on top! We ate dal bhat, tomato soup and we found some canned corn so we had that too! I was sooooo full omg!
I got asked by a chinese man and his friend: “are you the girl in the video, with *gestures at face* the…. I don’t know how to say it politely… with the marks on your face?” – yes that is me 😑😑😑😑 IM GOING TO BE MORE CAREFUL WITH SUNSCREEN NOW OKAY
We took some pics outside, and went to bed at 7:30pm. Now, writing this, we are each watching movies in bed :))) We are lower than Everest base camp so we should sleep well…
