Everest day 17!!

23 April 2026 · By Bianca

I woke up as usual in my warm tent, and procrastinated getting up for breaky. The whole night it is freezing cold, and at 8am – breakfast time – it finally starts to warm up, which is so annoying!

We ate, then I called Mum! I then set off for a little walk, to get my heart rate up. I walked close to Pumori high camp, which was about 1h40 round trip, taking it nice and easy. I met the sweetest girl who had been following me, and I just LOVE how one of the only places where I meet my followers is in the mountains!! I know I have my target audience!

I came back and had lunch, then did some schoolwork in my tent. Behrouz, the expedition doctor and good friend of mine arrived so I chilled in the coffee tent with him, and met other cool climbers too! I just love being surrounded by other high altitude climbers!!

I ate an American climber’s gummy bears then went to dinner! :)))

We had pasta, veggies, and mashed potato with tuna – one of the best meals so far. We chatted around the gas heater and went to bed 🙂

It’s a little annoying, how the icefall still isn’t fixed. The SPCC (icefall doctors) are waiting for a big serac (ice block) to collapse. If they fix the route through it, it will need over 10 ladders strung together to climb over it. But it will eventually collapse over the next few days or weeks, and when it does, it is predicted to kill at least 20 people. They don’t want to blow it up, to make it collapse, so I guess they will have to find another way. Until then, we can’t go through the icefall (needed to get to camp 1 and higher) and start our acclimatisation rotation. Ideally we would start our 6 day rotation in a few days, which would give us enough time to rest before our summit push mid to end of May.

Song of the day: MMMBop – Hansen
