Sorry for being a bit slack on the blogs – it’s been a little busy around here!
We woke up very early, at 4:30 in Kathmandu to (hopefully) get a helicopter to Lukla if the weather permitted. Unlike other times where we have had to wait on the tarmac for 3 hours to only return back to our hotel, this year we got on one of the first helis! The flight was very cold with us being in t-shirts, but we had great views of the snowy peaks.
Because our friends were getting on a later helicopter, Dad and I waited at a teahouse in Lukla and I did some maths work.
Our friends arrived and we started the trek! This is my 5th time doing (parts of) the Everest Base Camp trek, and it’s different and beautiful each time. The hike today was only 8km, but it was very muddy from previous rain/snowfall so we were a bit slower. We made it to Phakding at 2700m and had dinner and went straight to bed. We’re still jet lagged so we get sleepy pretty early!
It feels SO good to be back in the Himalayas and in the familiar Nepalese/Sherpa culture and I’m just so happy to be back here!
