Everest 2025

Day 9 – Everest

17 April 2025 · By Bianca

Today we woke up at 5:30 to walk up Kalapathar at 5600m!!

The morning was clear and we had amazing views of Pumori, a stunning 7000m peak. However almost as soon as we began walking the clouds covered the view and it got very cold.

My hands were freezing in my liner gloves (my bigger gloves had been sent straight to base camp) and my toes were also freezing in my little trekking shoes and socks. Dad was also very cold, so the two 12 year olds of our group, Hugo and Cara, and us went a bit quicker to warm up. Both kids were incredibly strong, even just walking up to 5600m alone is tough enough, but with the cold, windy, and viewless conditions, it was truly incredible.

Some people were sick and didn’t climb this peak, but Lily, Craig, Cara, Chris, and Hugo all smashed it! This hike is mostly to get views of Everest, that is barely visible from Base camp, but unfortunately we could barely see 30m in front of us.

All of our friends and family that have trekked with us, have brought such good vibes and on the summit we even had a dance party with lots of good tunes! If I were alone, I would have snapped a quick pic on the summit and left, but we embraced the cold weather and Hugo, Cara and I danced all the way down as well!

It took us about 1.5 hours from Gorakshep up to the top, and we were back down by about 9:30 am. We ate breakfast and played cards, Watched movies, rested and I did some schoolwork.
