Everest 2025

Day 40 – frustrating times

15 May 2025 · By Bianca

This morning we made a short noticed decision to head up for our summit push that night. This was because the weather for the 19th looked very good. We immediately began packing and laying out gear. On our rotation we left our down suits, sleeping bags, mats and other things up at camp 2, so that we wouldn’t have to carry them up again. We got out energy gels, bars, other quick energy food, chemical hand warmers and much more.

However… soon after we were informed of some iffy weather which would lead to big crowds on our planned summit attempt. So we made the painful decision (for me) to leave the next day.

It’s so annoying how I have spent years gaining experience, over a year training, 6 weeks so far on the expedition, and it all comes down to some weather forecast, and trusting different weather models. Anyways I drank like 4 protein drinks, and so many packs of electrolytes. I am trying so hard to stay healthy when my living conditions make it very difficult to.

I keep seeing/hearing about other climbers summiting and I am so incredibly happy and proud of them, but I just wish that that could be me.

I went back to bed, and set aside all the gear I had laid out.

goodnight 🩷
