Everest 2025

Day 37 – Base camp

12 May 2025 · By Bianca

Today I felt much better than the day before – which is good because I was getting worried that I would never get the energy back.

I still feel tired, but I was able to easily go for a walk in the morning. Mum, Dad and I walked to the Everest base camp “rock” and Mum and I walked a bit further.

It’s a bit of a joke around here about breaking world records. Everyone is thinking of things to do up high, that could potentially be the highest ever done. We jokingly tried to do some of the highest handstands and headstands. Other people try to do the most push ups above 5000m and the highest skateboard kickflip at camp 2. We may have the record for the the highest 1 – person rave above 5000m (yes you read that right). Some of the team and I are thinking of doing the highest Punjabi dancing, and we are trying to learn a choreography hahaha.

We spoke to some other Aussies that were trekking to base camp. It was so so nice to hear another Australian accent!!

The absolute best part of my day, and even for all of my base camp life, was seeing Mitch come back from his summit of Mt Everest!!!!! He has spent 237 days coming from England – check out his instagram @_mitchhutch – he is the most incredible person I have ever met and probably ever will meet. It honestly made me quite emotional seeing him come back. This dream of mine to summit is so powerful, and to see that someone, non Sherpa, has just done it, made it feel real and I got so excited to go up. He told me about seeing the first light on his summit day, just before summiting and I have no words for how badly I want to see this. Just watching his video of stepping to the top, made me teary and the thought of that possibly being me soon, is just mind blowing. I feel so close yet so far to this massive dream.

Anyways, I still have to wait of course. It was Ben’s birthday so we celebrated with cake, (no vodka for most) and coke. Happy birthday!!

record breaking handstand? probably not
Happy birthday Ben!!
