Today was a “rest day” in Namche Bazaar at 3400m. But in trekking language a “rest day” means staying in the same village 2 nights in a row, and doing a 4 hour hike. So today we hiked up to Everest View hotel at 3800m – an iconic lodge known to get good views of Everest (amongst other peaks), if the weather is good.
At this altitude we can really feel the thinner air, as it slows us down and makes us less hungry.
We managed to only just see Everest, but even when it is visible, it is so far away and doesn’t look as impressive as others.
Our group of 11 friends and family all have “matching” hawaiian style shirts that we all wore on today’s hike. We also played some groovy tunes whilst hiking and all the other trekkers loved it!!
We had tea at the Everest view hotel, then continued to Khumjung, the biggest village in the whole Everest region. We visited the monastery, and saw the real yeti scalp which was definitely… interesting. We then visited the school, funded by Edmund Hillary, the first to climb Mt Everest.
We hiked back down to Namche, where we had lovely crispy chicken burgers and cokes from Sherpa Barista. Definitely the best food in the Khumbu region, in my opinion!
Most of us had showers (some cold 😭) and we all had a lovely dinner! Dad and I have big appetites which is a good sign despite the high altitude!
