Today was another rest day at Everest Base Camp, since we did a bigger hike yesterday.
We spent the morning talking to some new climbers that had arrived at base camp. Today was Easter so we celebrated by eating some Cadbury eggs that I had brought!
I feel great after some movement, so I went for a 45 minute easy walk to the bottom of base camp, which was extremely busy with trekkers as usual. I then had a “shower” which was AMAZING and I felt like a whole new person afterwards. This was my second shower in 4 days and I felt very spoilt.
Because of the high altitude, there is about 50% of oxygen here at base camp. This makes smaller tasks, bigger efforts, so our days are not filled with many activities! Just to take a shower it takes energy to walk to the cook tent to ask for water to be boiled, pack a bag with everything you need, walk uphill to the shower tent, organise everything in the shower tent, actually “shower”, walk back to your tent, hang up the wet towel, and put away your clothes. Each small action makes you out of breath! I showered at 12 so that it would still be sunny and warm (ish) so that I wouldn’t freeze with wet hair!
We then had lunch, and I did some schoolwork in my tent. Again, with the lower oxygen levels my brain works a lot slower and I have to think a lot more.
I went back to the dining tent, chatted with lots of incredible people, ate some more Easter eggs (Everest bulk!), and went to bed!
