Hey everyone! As you know, I am currently in full swing in my Everest training so I thought I’d share what a week of training looks like for me.
(I live in Melbourne, Australia which is very very flat so I am slightly limited with mountainous terrain)
I am no expert in this, I just have the support from very experienced friends and family who have helped me craft a plan that works for me. I am a bit fitter than I was last year on Everest, even though I was quite satisfied with my fitness and pace, so I’m feeling quite good about it all this time. T
his training is not only to make the climb as doable as possible, but also to make it as safe as possible. If my oxygen bottle were to malfunction, a very high level of fitness would allow me to sit or even climb down at very very high altitudes without any oxygen (climbing without oxygen is a whole other sport and 99% of climbers use O2), this could save my life.
I believe that consistency is the most important aspect of my training and preparation. Putting myself through long hours, or consecutive days of hard workouts also helps my mental prep, which is a HUGEE part of big expeditions. I’ve spoken to renowned climbers who deliberately train without food or water to make their workouts as uncomfortable as possible.
