Everest day 26 – Resting

3 May 2026 · By Bianca

I slept pretty awfully last night, which I find always happens after a big day of exercise.

I had breakfast, then called Mum, and made sure all of my gear from my Lobuche getaway was drying properly.

My big event of the day was a shower!! I hadn’t had one in 11 days! Usually we take showers when it’s sunny, at about 11am, but it was soooo cold any snowy but I didn’t care. The shower is just a bucket of hot water, and even though we are in a tent, it’s still a little bit cold. It felt AMAZING to be clean again!

I had lunch, then met up with Oliver and his crew from Germany who are filming a segment on Everest. We talked in the coffee tent about plans for following my journey over the next few weeks.

Still in the coffee tent, I played cards with Petrit (Kosovo), Cirino (Italy), Bartek (Poland), and some others but I don’t know their names. It’s really fun getting to know SO many people from all over the world!

I went back to my tent, which was FREEZING, and did some schoolwork. Today was SOOOOO cold for some reason!

At 6:30pm, dinner time, everyone rolls into the dining tent. The generator turns on around then, and we can (slowly) charge all of our devices. We then had dinner, which was delicious, and we even had banana pie for dessert! At altitude, it’s very easy to lose your appetite (at least for me), so it’s really nice that they give us a variety of good food to make eating easier. I’m already decently acclimatised, so I’m happy that I still have a good appetite.

It was freezing tonight, so we all huddled around the gas heater, drinking tea and chatted religion and politics, Dad’s two favourite topics.

Then bedtime, usually at 9pm or so, which I dread as my tent is soooo dark and cold when I first get into it. I chuck my hot water bottle in the bottom of my sleeping bag, while I get organised. The tents are spacious but cold, and during the night it gets well below 0°C inside, because my water bottles freeze solid!
