Everest 2026

Day 41 – rest day in camp 2

17 May 2026 · By Bianca

I woke up at 8am or so, and got out of our small tent for breakfast. We ate porridge and eggs on toast, and met up with friends from base camp who had just climbed up from base camp.

I really tried a lot to drink a heap of water today, so I chugged some at breaky.

I laid down in my tent to rest in the sun, and then my friends Emma, Oli and Sarah (and cameraman Stan!) came over and said hi! Dad and I chatted with them through our tent, then I walked over to their camp with them. We sat in the sun and chatted for ages. Oliver is Australian and trying to do the fastest Everest climb from sea to summit! I have been friends with him and Emma (from Canada) on social media for ages, so it’s so good to finally catch up! At 6500m!

I went back to our camp for lunch, and then rested for the rest of the afternoon. Until… Kristen arrived from the summit of Nuptse without oxygen!! She was so exhausted, and it looked extremely hard. Nuptse is a 7900m mountain that is very steep, just next to Everest and Lhotse. There are only about 40 people in history that have summited it, and less than half without oxygen. And only 1 other woman. It’s so impressive, and she was very happy to get to camp 2 back safe at camp 2. Last year when I came back from 3 nights in camp 4, and 2 summit attempts, Kristen was there and helped me so much. So it was nice to be able to somewhat help her get her harness and helmet off, and get her some food and tea in the dining tent.

We all ate dinner with the rest of our group, and went to bed!!
