Summit push blogs from Bianca’s perspective – Camp 1 to 2

2 June 2025 · By Bianca

Today we got up early (4:40), packed all our stuff up and left to go to camp 2, at about 6:30. Because of the high altitude we are slow and need to catch our breath from doing anything.

We began walking, at a steady pace and ended up actually passing lots of people. We made sure that we don’t get too tired as we will attempt the summit in a few days. Of course we are still out of breath, that is given! I saw some of my friends that summited and gave them the biggest hugs.

It’s hard because of course they want to rant about how horrible it was because it was only yesterday, but for me who is trying to stay positive and with hope, it’s hard hearing all of this. But of course I still listen. With Mike, from Poland we talked about in base camp doing Punjabi dancing, and we did just that when we saw each other just below camp 2!

Dad and I got to camp 2 at about 9am, and we successfully beat the heat of the sun that massively slows us down.

I felt pretty good most of the way, never really exhausted. I did have a gel at the end just to fuel myself properly. Yesterday I had some pretty bad chest/lung pains when I would exhale, that was worrying me. But dad thought it was my chest being sore from coughing so much. I haven’t really mentioned, but pretty much this whole expedition I have suffered with the Khumbu cough.

Today my chest felt so much better, thanks to ibuprofen, AntiKof, and hot water. However my (almost disappeared) abs are quite sore from coughing. So sitting up and doing most things really hurts them.

We saw Ben and Jeno who summited 2 days ago, and they told us the trauma that it was. Dad and I slept most of the day, in our warm tent that often got too hot.

We ate dinner that we brought from Aus, took all of our meds and are about to sleep at 8pm.
