Today we climbed higher than camp 2, to help us acclimatise.
Contrary to popular belief, it was very hot. I finally got to experience the “Western BBQ”. Once is enough I think. The sun reflects of the snow, becoming much stronger. And there is snow everywhere so it was just boiling hot. We have to be very careful with sunscreen because the UV is so much stronger here. I put sunscreen on 3 times but I still got quite burnt (sorry mum!!).
Anyways we climbed up to the bergushrund (I do not know how to spell or pronounce that!) but it’s just a fancy word for a big ice overhang that marks the start of the Lhotse face. The Lhotse face is a big long STEEP wall that you have to climb up to get to camp 3 and camp 4. It’s a pretty iconic part of the Everest climb. It’s also quite intimidating 😬
We climbed up to 6810m which is the altitude of Ama Dablam. We both felt pretty good, going slow and steady. I’m ready to go back down to base camp though because I can feel the toll that sleeping 5 nights above 6000m takes on me, and I’m ready for some more oxygen.
Alsooooo my hair is SO BAD and I’m getting stressed just thinking about how I’m going to handle brushing it out. It looks and feels like I have dreadlocks, and I have a knot the size of my fist buried in there somewhere 😌
