About 1 hour before I left for the icefall, I threw up at base camp. I think I was a bit sick and Dad then caught it because he was sick coming up to camp 1. We are not in a rush so we decided to have a rest day in camp 1 6100m. Luckily I felt really good coming up.
Last night I slept pretty well, except from a headache that woke me up, but nothing that couldn’t be fixed with paracetamol! I slept so well after that!! I went and chatted to other climbers before they headed up to camp 2, as dad rested. I drank lots of tea in the small dining tent with my Swiss friend Anne Mie who is super strong!
Although I have no major altitude problems, I still find it super hard to eat! At altitude I feel about 90% full all the time, no matter how much I have eaten. So lunch was a bit of a struggle but I managed to eat most of my tiny bowl of fried rice.
It got soooo hot during the day in the tent, even though it’s a bit cold outside. So dad and I laid in our tent in just our thermals and slept. I’m not joking it was so hot, it felt like 35°C! We took advantage of the sun and got out our solar charger and charged our batteries and phones.
Even though this camp is only 800m higher than base camp (which is quite a big altitude gain in mountaineering), we can definitely feel the altitude difference! As you can tell, our days aren’t filled with many tasks, because everything is a big effort!
I’ve gotten out my speaker, hung it up in the tent and I’m playing some quiet, chill music as we rested some more before the dreaded meal time at 5pm 😭
Update: I’m actually excited for meal time because we are eating a dehydrated meal brought from Australia!! THAI CHICKEN CURRY!!
Another Update: It was very spicy and hurt our delicate stomachs 🥺🥺
